In previous years the show has taken place at the Novella Theatre in the West-End, but this year the society has upscaled to the 1,500-seat Adelphi theatre (home of the award-winning Kinky Boots).
The cast of this spectacle is comprised of over 200 students who are currently rehearsing a relentless four to five times a week. Organisation began in November with the audition process – open to everyone the actors, dancers and singers range from beginners to highly experienced.
So what can you expect to see in Rangeela? The society describes it as a showcase of ‘Indian dance, music, fashion and acting’. In total there are twelve acts each narrating their own unique story, exhibiting a plethora of skills and talents. Dances range from Bhangra to Hip Hop, music travels from East to West and the fashion show will display stunning traditional Indian clothing from Charmi Creations and Asian jewellery from Kyle’s collection.
All profits from Rangeela will go to ‘The Youth Project’, a movement which aims to improve the lives of others through projects such as mentoring schemes and homeless drives. Each year Hindu Society selects a different charity to which the profits (usually between £5,000-£6,000) are donated, and this year they have stayed closer to home as one of its founders, Aadil Khan, is amongst our fellow UCL classmates.
