UCL Ranked 7th Best University in the World

UCL beats out Kings and Imperial in the latest set of university rankings

UCL has maintained its position as the 7th best university in the world in this year’s QS University Rankings. Ranked as the best university in London, UCL came ahead of Imperial College (9th) and Kings College (21st).

This year’s rankings saw Cambridge dropping out of the top three to 4th position. Oxford also managed to maintain their position, staying in 6th place.

Released annually, the QS World Rankings are a popular resource for prospective students.  The rankings are decided using six indicators: academic reputation, employer reputation, student-to-faculty ratio, citations per faculty, international faculty ratio and international student ratio.

Scored at 95.6 overall, UCL scored highly in areas such as academic reputation and its international outreach. Its lowest score, at 79.1, was for citations per faculty. This year’s overall score is down from last year’s score at 97.2.

This ranking comes only a matter of weeks after UCL was named the 4th worst university for student satisfaction in the National Student Survey. Despite UCL being named one of the worst UK universities in terms of student satisfaction, Kings managed to place second from bottom. The QS World Rankings do not take student satisfaction into account.

These recent results show that whilst UCL may be able to attract a high number of international students and may still hold a high academic reputation, student satisfaction is at an all time low.
